This challenging stage leads through the woodland around Mehringer Schweiz and includes a number of thrilling uphill and downhill sections. The trail follows steep paths through fir and spruce forests, through a high-level beech forest and a level forest at the summit. In the early part of the stage, you have the option of stopping off at Lake Triolago, a popular recreational lake. Further on, yet another place of interest awaits you: a 20-metre high wooden viewing tower, from where you have an outstanding view of the "Five Moselle lakes", five curves of the Moselle interrupted by woodland and vineyards. The trail now heads steeply downhill towards Leiwen, the idyllic wine-growing village on one of the most beautiful loops on the River Moselle between Trier and Bernkastel-Kues.
