AhrSteig Stage 3: Aremberg to Insul (18.7 km)

Aremberg - Arenberg Castle Ruins - Eichenbach - Bläke Fritz - Streitenau - Chimney Chapel - Freilichtbühne - Schuld - Insul

The trail climbs steeply to the ruins of Arenberg Castle - at 623 metres, the highest point of the entire Ahr Trail. You reach Eichenbach via steep forest paths. Through the Eichenbacher Forst and after crossing the Ahr, there is a crisp ascent over hidden paths to spectacular rock passages and along rugged sandstone walls to Schuld. A detour to the Schornkapelle chapel and the open-air theatre is worthwhile. Continuing along forest paths, up to the impressive rock massif of the Spicher Ley with its imposing views of the Ahr valley, the route leads over the last stage climb through forests and meadows down to Insul with the Hahnensteiner Mühle.
