Klosterruine Disibodenberg

Odernheim am Glan · Naheland

The ruins of the former monastery of Saint Hildegard can be found in the most charming surroundings. Picturesquely stretched out, the ridge of the Disibodenberg lies in the estuary triangle of the Glan River into the Nahe River.

The ruins of the monastery can hardly be seen between the tops of the tall trees. Embedded in the romantic landscape park created by the famous Heidelberg horticultural inspector and garden artist Johann Metzger in the middle of the nineteenth century, the ruin lies on the mountain plateau. From here you have the most beautiful view into the valleys of both rivers. During your tour you will be able to clearly recognize the floor plan of the former monastery buildings. When entering through the gate, the church, cloister and chapter house are clearly discernible.

Supported by subtle but informative signposting you can explore the other areas of the monastery, identify the Benedictine basic plan and enter the large Cistercian buildings still preserved in the outer walls, which round off the slope to the Nahe Valley.
