Katholische Pfarrkirche Mariä Himmelfahrt

Alsheim · Rheinhessen

Under the late Gothic star vault of the choir of the Catholic parish church, a little Mary with child is enthroned in the late Baroque high altar, which comes from the Andreaskirche in Worms. This rural, very expressive pictorial work was created around 1460. It is also worth making a detour to the Protestant church in the village. Here a small part of a cycle of murals from the middle of the 14th century has been preserved, showing the rare depiction of the torture of the ten thousand and their leader Achatius on Mount Ararat as well as scenes from the life of Jesus.
