As can be seen from the parish chronicle, the merchant Johann Marx from Hermeskeil built the small chapel in 1865. According to oral tradition, the baroque statue of the Madonna, which was placed there, is said to come from the chapel, which used to stand on the Lascheider Hof, but was torn down around 1850. In 1925 a first thorough renovation was carried out. As a lasting reminder of the Marian Year 1954, the chapel was replaced by a new, larger and more beautiful building in 1955. The old Madonna statue was given a place in the Marian altar of the parish church. The sculptor Matthias Müller from Hermeskeil carved a new Madonna statue for the Erzberg Chapel.
