Deutsches Schuhmuseum Hauenstein

Hauenstein · Pfalz

From November 2nd, 2020, the German Shoe Museum and the Palatinate Sports Museum will be closed due to renovation, probably until April 2021.

A journey through time into the magical world of shoes ...

The German Shoe Museum Hauenstein is unique worldwide, a fascinating presentation of the cultural heritage of shoes from all times and continents. Nostalgic manufactory, but also rattling machines with the flair of the 1930s and 1940s, with their confusing transmissions, conjure up an authentic ambience in the harmonious interplay of shoe manufacture, shoe history and social history. The integration of the social living conditions of entire generations makes the Deutsches Schuhmuseum Hauenstein unique. On almost 3000 square meters on four lively levels of experience, the museum shows itself in an exemplary clarity and liveliness. The Ernst Tillmann Collection alone - the largest European collection by a private collector - comprises over 3500 pairs of shoes from two millennia. A very special experience and unique worldwide is the collection of celebrity shoes by contemporary personalities with a few hundred copies. The Palatinate Sports Museum in the German Shoe Museum is dedicated to the emergence and development of gymnastics and sport in the Palatinate. Over 600 exhibits, numerous information boards as well as films and photographs show the development of sport from the late 18th century to the present day. A lot has happened in the collection since the opening in 2011. Numerous valuable exhibits have been added and bring sports history to life. Special exhibitions on certain topics complement the museum concept. Find out more at:
