Holidays in the Hunsrück

Perfect for a hiking holiday in Germany and much more

Ringed by the Moselle, Nahe, Rhine and Saar rivers, the Hunsrück has a whole host of fascinating attractions: old mills beside babbling brooks, mighty castles and romantic places such as Herrstein or Kastellaun where visitors are reminded of long-gone days, exploring the ruins of mediaeval fortifications and strolling along lanes lined with timber-framed buildings. Hiking along the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig means hiking through moorland, across wooden walkways and along strange piles of quartzite blocks. Experience a wonderful blend of nature and culture on the trail voted "Germany's most beautiful" in 2009. Adventurous walkers follow in the footsteps of the Romans and the Celts and explore their ancient settlement sites in the Hunsrück hills.

Hiking on the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail

Graded long-distance hiking trail in the Hunsrück

The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail runs for 410 kilometres on mostly natural tracks between Trier, Perl/Moselle and Boppard/Rhine, combining culture and wellness with scenic beauty. This premium-grade long-distance trail in the Saar-Hunsrück nature reserve takes in an impressive variety of landscapes: the vineyards and riverbanks of the Saar, Moselle, Nahe and Rhine rivers contrast with the densely wooded hills and ridges of the Hunsrück uplands.
