Weingut Wolf

Bad Dürkheim · Pfalz

Wolf is a traditional family run estate started already in 1791. It is located in Bad Duerkheim – Ungstein, a well known town at the famous “Wine Route”. The area’s vineyards such as Honigsäckel, Herrenberg or Weilberg are mentioned in wine related publications and are where this estate grows its grapes. Selected surrounding vine-growers also supply in addition.

Mr. Wolf Senior looks back to over 40 years of experience in the business – a factor of significant importance. Not only the virtues necessary on the vineyard and in the cellar are vital for the creation of fine wines, also the ability to ascertain anew year after year at which specific spot which type of grape develop best and in what way the minerals in the soil effect the grape needs to be acquired over the decades.

Yet, it takes more than just experience – the modern techniques used on the vineyards and in the cellar together with new results from experiments around the cultivation of grapes are just as important for reaching exceptional levels of quality. In this way the experienced senior and the innovation-driven junior Michael Wolf, who has majored in viticulture and business admistration and has spent time with winemakers abroad, form a great team.

After the grapes have enjoyed all the treatments that come along with growing on vineyards which are among the best in the Pfalz, they are processed and finally stored in old fashioned and yet still most advantageous brick cellars which maintain the right climate naturally. Family Wolf has invested into up-to-date steel tanks for the Rieslings and wooden barrels for the barriques as well as into bottling equipment. From growing of the grape to filling the wine into the bottle, this estate takes care of it all in order to be able to keep constant control of the quality of the processes and the product.

This is why the estate has earned the title “DLG-recommended estate” – a certification which does not only require a high level of wine as the finished product but also a commitment to certain standards regarding the production itself. This privileges only a total of 35 estates nationwide across Germany. While a number of agricultural chambers have awarded especially the barriques and magazines just as well as guides mention Wolf’s wines, the prestigious Gault Millau features the estate in its new edition.
