Culture in Romantic Germany

A treasure trove of history

The regions around Rhine and Moselle in the west of Germany are a real treasure trove of stories and history. From the earliest settlements through the Celts, the Romans and the Franks right up to the present day the region has always been brimming with adventure and excitement.

Majestic castles, magnificent palaces, important churches and atmospheric abbeys reflect the rich history of this romantic region in Germany. Follow in the footsteps of the Romans through Trier, Germany's oldest town and a UNESCO World Heritage site, and along the Moselle where the Romans introduced wine-growing to the region. Romantic Germany is also home to the following UNESCO Word Heritage sites: Speyer Cathedral, the Upper Middle Rhine Valley and the Roman Limes. Their special status provides both international recognition and extraordinary protection.

Update on the situation in the Ahr valley

The Ahr valley and its tourism infrastructure are still severely affected by the consequences of the flood disaster in July. In the meantime, however, some tourism offers are available again to a limited extent. You can find out what is currently available in the region by clicking on the following link. In all other parts of Rhineland-Palatinate, excursions and holidays are possible without any problems.
