And where better to enjoy this culinary trio than here, right in the heart of the city? You break off a piece of the crusty bread and take a big bite of the delicious sausage. It is not really sticking to the proper Mainz rules as, technically, the whole sausage should fit inside the piece of bread. But the people of Mainz will no doubt forgive you, as they are well-known for their warmth and hospitality.

You relax as you finish off your drinks, looking up at the more than 1,000-year-old shimmering red stone of the mighty cathedral. You remember reading somewhere that the building was described as a ‘cathedral mountain’ and now you understand why. The centuries-old structures are certainly impressive. You could admire the architecture and all the details on the angled façade for hours, but you have other plans for today. So you tear yourself away from the view and make your way through the idyllic streets of the old town, looking forward to all the pretty little shops along the way. It is that pure Mainz feeling again.
