Oranienstein Castle and its inhabitants

25.11.2023

Diez · Lahntal

The event takes place daily EXCEPT MONDAY!

From October 2023, the museum in the Count's Castle will be showing the special exhibition "Imprisoned in Diez". Among other things, the presentation is dedicated to the use of the entire Count's Castle as a penitentiary for around 140 years.

After the final move of Princess Henriette Amalie to Oranienstein in 1709, the Count's Castle had finally lost its role as the princely widow's residence. Decades of decline followed, and finally it was converted into a prison that was modern by the standards of the time. Diez had thus become an important prison location.

The exhibition will be opened on Monday, 2 October, at 7:00 pm.
