In Dahn, as in many other cities, a market is held around St. Martin's Day (11 November). "Martini" once marked the beginning of a 40-day penance period before Christmas. And before that - as today at the carnival before the beginning of Lent - people wanted to celebrate again vigorously. In addition, "Martini" was the traditional payday of servants and maids after successful harvesting, and the farmers also had more money after selling their agricultural products than was otherwise the case in the year - the ideal opportunity to stock up on everyday necessities such as laundry, shoes and tools before winter. Of course, the dealers were also busy during this time. The markets were born - and with them came jugglers and showmen - the beginning of the martini markets.

More than 30 years ago, the Dahn advertising circle revived the market. Since then, the martini market has received a great deal of support from near and far every year. The shops are open on this market Sunday and many visitors take the opportunity to stock up early and without stress with winter clothing or Christmas presents. Others are pleased with the wide range of products on offer from the market visitors.
Around 60 stalls crowd around the Catholic Church in the city centre on this day. For the children a colorful rally through the shops is offered. In addition, the members donate many prizes in kind every year for the large martini market tombola, where of course there are also Martin geese to be won - now in the ready-to-cook version...
Together, one marvels at the attractions of the Martinimarkt organized by the advertising circle: Real circus elephants have already shown their tricks here in recent years. With a lookout gondola, visitors were able to pull themselves to dizzying heights and let an extraordinary view over the Wasgaustadt wander, while on the ground a motorcycle stuntman delivered a breathtaking show, to name just a few of last year's program points.

The martini market becomes particularly cosy in the evening, when the darkness falls and the warm light of the sales stalls creates a very special atmosphere. Then people get even closer together, for chatting or to warm themselves with a hot mulled wine. And one agrees once again: "Dahn is an all-round experience."
